Formed
less than 25 million years ago the Himalayas are the youngest mountain ranges
in the world and are home to the highest mountain peaks on earth, these
mountains are essentially divided into five zones - sub tropical, temperate,
sub alpine, alpine and Aeolian. This fascinating mosaic of mountains, with
terrain ranging from towering mountains, hi-attitude deserts, extensive
plateaus, thickly wooded alpine river valleys, , meandering rivers, gentle
streams and placid lakes extends 2500 kilometers west to east and varies in
width from 250 to 450 kilometers. Consisting of three parallel mountain ranges
- the foothills or Shivalik, the middle Himalaya and the Great Himalayan range
the Himalaya are a biological paradise and a Geologist's dream.
For ages these mountains have attracted warriors, traders, adventurers,
surveyors, and travelers. Today the Himalayas are one of the world's most
sought after travel and adventure destinations. In these very mountains at the
extreme north of India in what is generally termed the Indian Western Himalaya
lies the mystical land of Ladakh. And it is here that you get to experience a
rare spirit of warmth and hospitality of the Ladakhi people.

Ladakh
is a goldmine of beautiful high altitude lakes that dot the extensive plateau
of Changthang. Here you'll find ancient monasteries clinging to fantastically
wind sculpted stark barren hills. Many of them are rich repositories of
intricate Thanka paintings and ancient complex calligraphic Buddhist scrolls.
All of the Monasteries house miniature and gigantic bronze, copper and brass
statues, wall paintings some of them still rich with pulsating colours.
Ladakh
is an unforgettable experience that you'll never forget.
